As ReEmployAbility enters its 15th year of service, they are excited to publish the Transition2Work® Program Results Summary. The summary provides a report of the program’s community impact, performance results, and injured worker outcomes through fiscal year 2017.
Since 2007, ReEmployAbility’s nationwide Transition2Work program has placed injured employees at local nonprofit organizations to perform light duty work when their pre-injury employer cannot accommodate their physical restrictions on-site.
This annual report is based on data collected since the program’s inception in 2007 and examines the impact of program participation of injured workers spanning all 50 states. It tabulates the data of the program history and compares it to the data of the most recent fiscal year. These results indicate a consistent, positive influence on claim outcomes.
Key highlights from ReEmployAbility’s Program Results Summary include:
Injured Worker Outcomes –
- In 2017, Transition2Work benefited injured workers by achieving a 99 percent placement success rate and securing an appropriate nonprofit assignment in two days or less, on average.
- 58 percent of the injured employees referred to the Transition2Work program participated in a nonprofit assignment and those who participated volunteered for an average of 55 days in the assignment.
- Overall, 60 percent of employees referred successfully returned to work with their pre-injury employer, reached Maximum Medical Improvement (MMI), or settled their workers’ compensation claim, which benefits the employee, employer, and insurance company.
Community Impact –
- During 2017, ReEmployAbility maintained a network of more than 35,000 nationwide nonprofit partners.
- To date, Transition2Work program participants have provided approximately 6.5 million volunteer hours to local and national nonprofit organizations.
- In 2017, participants in the Transition2Work program had an estimated economic impact on nonprofits valued over $47 million. This estimate is based on the value of an hour of volunteer time published by independentsector.org and used by the US Government agency, Corporation for National and Community Service.
Employer Results –
- Through the Transition2Work program, employees gained an improved sense of value as they engaged in the community while they recovered, all while boosting employee morale.
- Employers and insurance carriers realized an average indemnity savings of more than $4,300 per claim referred to the Transition2Work program. All indemnity savings estimates are based on the employees’ daily comp rate multiplied by the number of days a participant was in program.
Return-to-Work programs such as Transition2Work allow injured workers to engage in meaningful and productive work, keep a flexible work schedule, maintain daily work habits, make a positive impact on the community, and return to work faster.
In turn, employers benefit by returning employees to work quickly, thereby lowering workers’ compensation claims costs that impact experience ratios for future insurance premiums.
