When a batch operator with an on-the-job back injury didn’t show any sign of physical improvement in more than 3 months of rest at home, his employer called on ReEmployAbility for help with his recovery. A volunteer assignment was swiftly secured only three miles from the injured worker’s home at an American Red Cross thrift store. The volunteer duties included answering the phone, data entry and light cleaning, and when Hurricane Sandy rocked the east coast, the injured worker was a saving grace to the office and the nation as an extra pair of helping hands. The injured worker participated in the program for just two weeks before going to his doctor to get a full-duty release to return to his normal job.
