As part of ReEmployAbility’s volunteer program, Marketing Communication Manager Rachael Lugo recently dedicated her time and talents to serving the local nonprofit His Place of Refuge. Through this partnership, she participated in the organization’s quarterly women’s retreat, Weekend with the King Ministries (WWTK). A transformative three-day event designed to help participants “sit at the feet of Jesus like Mary.” The retreat offered women a chance to step away from life’s challenges and experience spiritual restoration in a safe, nurturing environment. Centered on healing, renewal, and restoration, the retreat provided an opportunity for participants to rediscover their purpose, find strength, and leave refreshed with a renewed sense of hope.
A Weekend of Service
Over the weekend, women from diverse backgrounds found encouragement, strength, and a renewed sense of purpose. Many arrived carrying heavy burdens—family struggles, addiction, or feelings of hopelessness. By the time they left, those burdens had been lifted and replaced with hope, joy, and a deeper sense of their identity.
Rachael served in many roles, from managing music and teaching classes to leading the intercession team. This wasn’t her first time volunteering with WWTK. She regularly gives her time four to six times each year and continues to witness the powerful impact of the ministry’s mission.
Empowering Employees Through Service
Reflecting on her experience, Rachael shared:
“Weekend with the King isn’t just a retreat, it’s a time to encounter the One who loves us most. We all go through seasons where we feel stuck or face the same struggles again and again. WWTK is an appointed time to draw closer to God and experience His love, healing, and guidance. The heart of this ministry is to bring freedom not only to each woman but also to her family and future generations. And while the journey may begin here, it doesn’t end here. Continued connection with God and the community is what keeps the transformation growing.”
His Place of Refuge, a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, is devoted to pouring love and hope into the lives of women through programs like Weekend with the King Ministries (WWTK). The ministry is guided by the words of Isaiah 61:3: “to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair.” This scripture captures the heart of their mission to bring healing, renewal, and restoration to those they serve.
At ReEmployAbility, we are proud to empower employees like Rachael to contribute their time and skills to causes that make a lasting difference. Through the volunteer day initiative, we remain committed to strengthening our communities by supporting the passions and service of our team members.
