At ReEmployAbility, community service is more than a value; it’s a commitment. Recently, a group of our team members volunteered with Meals on Wheels of Tampa, a nonprofit organization that delivers not only nutritious meals but also vital human connections to homebound seniors across the region.
Each weekday, Meals on Wheels of Tampa delivers over 1,000 meals to seniors and individuals with disabilities throughout Hillsborough County. In 2024 alone, the program provided more than 500,000 meals with the help of over 800 volunteers[1]. These meals are prepared fresh each morning in their private kitchen and tailored to meet specific dietary needs—such as diabetic-friendly, heart-healthy, and renal-friendly options[2].
Our volunteers had the privilege of delivering meals and smiles to local residents. For many recipients, the daily visit from a volunteer is the only human interaction they receive. In fact, 60% of Meals on Wheels recipients live alone, making these visits a critical lifeline for social and emotional well-being[2].
Caitlin Camm, REA Administration Associate, shared her experience:
“My experience volunteering at Meals on Wheels through ReEmployAbility was fantastic! I enjoyed spending time with and getting to know my driving partner, Michelle. My favorite part was seeing the smiles on the faces of the elderly people that we delivered meals to. I could feel their gratitude for this essential service. I’m looking forward to participating in the next Meals on Wheels volunteer opportunity.”
Jordan McDaniel, REA Client Service Coordinator, echoed that sentiment:
“I had the pleasure of volunteering for Meals on Wheels again this year. I was pleasantly surprised to find that many of the stops were the same ones I visited during last year’s volunteer work. It was a rewarding experience to deliver both nutritious meals and warm smiles. The gratitude and kindness shown by the recipients truly made the day special.”
These stories are a testament to the power of compassion and consistency. At ReEmployAbility, we believe in using our time and resources to make a meaningful difference. Not just in the workers’ compensation industry, but in the neighborhoods we call home. We are deeply grateful to Meals on Wheels of Tampa for the incredible work they do every day. Their mission to help seniors remain independent and nourished in their own homes aligns perfectly with our values. Together, we can ensure that no senior in our community goes hungry or unseen.
