ReEmployAbility supports nonprofits daily across the country with our Transition2Work participants. Today, we celebrate all our nonprofit partners for National Nonprofit Day. To honor the work they do in their communities, National Sales Manager, Todd Loomis, recently talked with the Homeless Coalition of Central Florida on ReEmployAbility’s new podcast, ReAudio.

Todd sat down with Director of Guest Services & Information Technology, Danny Arroyo, to discuss the work the coalition does and how COVID-19 has impacted their nonprofit.

The Homeless Coalition of Central Florida is a low barrier residential shelter with a focus on housing, emergency services, and diversion. They help families and individuals return to stable, permanent homes as quickly as possible. Each day they serve more than 500 men, women and children through residential programs, and serve more than 100 unsheltered individuals through community initiatives. They provide meals 365 days a year, youth programs and daycare facilities for their guests.

“We get as many people off the streets as possible,” said Danny. “And not just in our shelter, but housing, because everyone deserves housing.”

Danny said in the last 18 months, COVID-19 has impacted the work they are able to do for their community while at the same time increased the number of homeless in need due to lost jobs in the pandemic. The community came together to support the coalition though, showing true community spirit donating masks, sanitizer, and other COVID supplies for guests and staff.

“It shows what an agency can do when something of this magnitude happens,” said Danny. “And how we bond together, and make sure everything is running correct for our guests and our staff.”
