On Giving Tuesday 2024, ReEmployAbility employees rallied together to support The Spring of Tampa Bay in a pivotal moment of growth and change. The Spring of Tampa Bay, a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering survivors of domestic violence, recently realized a long-held dream: moving to a new, upgraded center. This milestone represents more than just a physical relocation—it signifies a renewed commitment to providing safety, dignity, and hope for individuals and families escaping domestic violence in the Tampa Bay area. The impact of this new center on survivors is profound, offering a beacon of hope and a fresh start for families.

The Spring of Tampa Bay: A Legacy of Empowerment
Since its founding in 1977, The Spring of Tampa Bay has emerged as a vital lifeline for victims of domestic violence in the Tampa Bay region. The organization’s unwavering mission encompasses three critical areas:
- The prevention of abuse
- The protection of victims
- The promotion of long-term change in the community
Over the years, The Spring has positively impacted thousands of lives, providing essential resources and support that empower individuals to break free from the cycle of violence. Their comprehensive approach not only aids survivors in immediate need but also fosters an environment where healing and personal growth are possible.
The newly established center reflects this commitment to comprehensive care and support. It has been thoughtfully designed to meet the diverse and essential needs of survivors. One of the standout features is a well-stocked thrift store that offers a wide range of items, including clothing, shoes, toys, and homeware, helping clients fulfill their basic needs while promoting sustainability.
Additionally, a dedicated space serves as a “store” for survivors to access crucial essentials at no cost, such as hygiene products, diapers, bedding, and towels. The center also offers resources aimed at restoring dignity, featuring makeup and personal care items that contribute to a sense of self-worth and empowerment for women who often have to leave everything behind. In creating this welcoming and safe environment, The Spring of Tampa Bay ensures that those embarking on their journey toward healing feel supported and valued.

ReEmployAbility’s Volunteer Effort
Over several weeks, 21 dedicated employees from ReEmployAbility volunteered their time and energy to support The Spring as it relocated to a new facility. These compassionate individuals took on a range of responsibilities crucial to the move, including organizing an array of hygiene products, clothing, toys, and other essential items that would aid those in need. They worked diligently to pack and move furniture, ensuring everything was safely transported to the new location. In addition to these tasks, the volunteers also played a vital role in preparing the thrift store and donation center for operation in its new space, making sure that it was ready to serve the community effectively. Their teamwork and commitment facilitated a smooth transition for The Spring. They exemplified the power of community service and the positive impact that collective efforts can have on those in need.
These efforts ensured that The Spring’s new facility was ready to continue its vital work of supporting survivors. Rachel Kicak, Learning and Development Manager at ReEmployAbility, reflected on her experience in the Spring, stating:
“It was so wonderful to partner with The Spring of Tampa Bay to help them close the chapter and pack up their previous location and then help the following week by getting them settled into the new, stunning facility! I was amazed when we got a tour of the new location of how well planned and laid out it was. It really will be a centralized location to help survivors of domestic abuse. In sorting the items for the thrift store in addition to the supplies for the people they will be helping at The Spring, I was struck with not only the incredible impact they will be able to continue to make but also the day to day necessities that I take for granted. The scope of the impact The Spring has on the Tampa Bay area as well as the courage it takes survivors to find safety really hit me while we were volunteering. They have really done everything they can to make this new location a safe, inclusive, and even comforting place for those in need. I look forward to continuing to volunteer with them and helping with their mission! .”
The Spring of Tampa Bay continues to impact the community and all those with the privilege to volunteer for such an impactful nonprofit.
