At ReEmployAbility, we take pride in supporting our team members as they give back to their communities. One such inspiring story comes from Kris Crispin, a Placement Specialist. He recently volunteered with one of our local nonprofit partners, Habitat for Humanity, in Lakeland, FL. Kris has always been aware of the impact Habitat for Humanity has on the local community. He drives by their location weekly. Motivated by a desire to make a difference, Kris took the opportunity to lend a helping hand where it was needed most. Through the Transition2Work program, injured workers also support Habitat for Humanity by assisting with tasks such as bagging donated items, greeting and assisting customers, tagging donations, and light cleaning. This ensures they can stay active, all within their physical restrictions.
Making a Difference Through Hands-On Work
During the volunteer experience, Kris was deeply moved by the strong sense of community among the workers and shoppers. “I witnessed how all of the workers get along with the guests, and many times, they knew them. Some regular shoppers came every week. They all had a great relationship with each other,” Kris recalled. Seeing the bonds formed through the nonprofit’s work reinforced the importance of its mission and the impact they have on the community.

While volunteering, Kris assisted with moving and repairing furniture, helping to lighten the load for the hardworking Habitat team. “They have quite a few workers but can always use a heavy lifter, and I was glad I was able to help them with that,” Kris explained. “They were very thankful I came in and could repair some things.” This experience provided firsthand insight into the physical demands of the work and the constant need for volunteers willing to step up. Even though Kris took on heavy lifting, the nonprofit accommodates injured workers. Through the Transition2Work program, they assign tasks based on light-duty restrictions, ensuring everyone can contribute meaningfully.
Small Efforts That Create a Big Impact
Kris encourages others to get involved, emphasizing the importance of understanding a nonprofit’s needs. He also recognizes the broader impact of small efforts. “Get involved, understand their needs, how much they do for the community, and continue to get involved after. Those small efforts all combine to help so many people in real need of donations such as clothing for the cold, food, and basic needs and services,” Kris advised. We are incredibly proud of Kris for taking the initiative to volunteer. He represents ReEmployAbility’s commitment to community service.
If you’re looking for a meaningful way to give back, consider finding a local nonprofit in need of support. Every small effort helps build stronger communities and changes lives for the better!
