In this month’s Nonprofit Spotlight, we are honored to recognize the American Cancer Society (ACS), a nationally respected organization dedicated to improving the lives of people with cancer and their families through advocacy, research, and patient support. Since its founding in 1913, ACS has remained at the forefront of the fight against cancer—working to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to prevent, detect, treat, and survive the disease.
For more than a century, the American Cancer Society has driven meaningful progress through public education, innovative research, and unwavering support for patients and caregivers. From helping establish the link between smoking and cancer to funding groundbreaking treatments and early detection methods, ACS has contributed to advancements that have helped reduce cancer death rates and improve outcomes for millions. Their work reflects a powerful commitment to their mission and a vision of ending cancer as we know it, for everyone.
A Legacy of Impact and Innovation
What began as a small group of physicians and advocates determined to raise awareness about a widely misunderstood disease has grown into a global movement. Over the decades, ACS has invested billions of dollars into life-saving research, supported patients through every stage of their journey, and empowered communities with the knowledge and tools to take action against cancer.
Their work is guided by core values that define their approach to service: integrity, compassion, courage, determination, and diversity. These principles are evident in every aspect of their efforts—from advancing equitable access to care, to supporting families in times of uncertainty, to boldly pursuing breakthroughs that bring hope to those affected by cancer.

A Partnership Rooted in Purpose
The American Cancer Society’s impact is further strengthened through partnerships like ReEmployAbility’s Transition2Work® program. This collaboration creates opportunities for individuals recovering from injury to regain confidence, build skills, and contribute in meaningful ways while supporting ACS’s mission.
Participants like Priscilla demonstrate the value of this partnership in action. Though new to the organization, she has already made a strong impression through her eagerness to learn, positive attitude, and proactive approach to helping wherever needed. Whether merchandising the men’s department or stepping in to support daily tasks without being asked, Priscilla embodies initiative and dedication.
As shared by ACS leadership, “Priscilla has only been with us a few weeks, yet she has already had an impact. She learns quickly and has a willing spirit… She takes it upon herself to jump in and take care of a need when she sees it. We feel grateful and lucky to have her on board.”
Her contributions not only support the day-to-day operations of ACS but also highlight the resilience and determination that define Transition2Work participants.
Advancing Hope Through Service
The American Cancer Society stands as a powerful example of how compassion, innovation, and collaboration can drive lasting change. By welcoming individuals like Priscilla and fostering an environment of inclusion and purpose, ACS continues to strengthen both their mission and the communities they serve.
We are proud to spotlight the American Cancer Society for their enduring commitment to saving lives, supporting families, and creating a future where cancer is no longer a life-altering diagnosis. Their work not only advances science and care—but also provides hope, strength, and support to millions each year.
