In this month’s Nonprofit Spotlight, we are proud to recognize Gospel Rescue Mission (GRM), an Oklahoma nonprofit dedicated to helping individuals overcome homelessness and life challenges through faith, compassion, and community support.

For more than 70 years, Gospel Rescue Mission has served individuals facing homelessness, poverty, addiction, mental health challenges, and other barriers that can make it difficult to move forward. Guided by a belief in the value and potential of every person, the organization provides not only immediate assistance, but also opportunities for long-term growth, stability, and independence.

Working alongside churches, businesses, government leaders, and community partners, GRM addresses critical community needs through shelter, meals, workforce development programs, and supportive services. This year alone, the organization has served 21,914 meals and provided safe overnight shelter more than 10,700 times, helping individuals access the resources and support needed during some of life’s most difficult circumstances.

Beyond meeting immediate needs, Gospel Rescue Mission is committed to helping people build a stronger future. Through programs focused on personal development, workforce readiness, and life skills, the organization empowers individuals to regain confidence, develop independence, and take meaningful steps toward lasting stability.

How Transition2Work® Volunteers Help Advance Gospel Rescue Mission

As a nonprofit partner in ReEmployAbility’s Transition2Work® program, Gospel Rescue Mission extends its impact even further by providing meaningful volunteer opportunities for injured workers recovering from an illness or injury.

When an injured worker is temporarily unable to return to their regular job duties, Transition2Work connects them with medically appropriate volunteer opportunities at nonprofit organizations like GRM. These opportunities allow injured workers to remain active, maintain a sense of purpose, and continue making a positive contribution to their communities while focusing on recovery.

One volunteer left a particularly meaningful impression on the Gospel Rescue Mission team while recovering from a shoulder injury. Serving at the organization’s front desk, he answered phones, welcomed guests, and offered encouragement to individuals visiting the mission each day. His positive attitude and willingness to serve made a lasting impact on guests and staff alike.

Nycky Miller, Development Director at Gospel Rescue Mission, shared:

“This gentleman came to serve with us at Gospel Rescue Mission as a ReEmployAbility volunteer after injuring his shoulder. He was such a light to our guests, giving them encouragement each day from his post. He was an absolute gift while he served with us, and we are so grateful for this program for providing that opportunity for him and for us.”

His experience reflects the power of meaningful work and service. While recovering from injury, he remained connected to his community, supported an organization serving those in need, and helped create a welcoming experience for individuals seeking hope and assistance.
