In this months Nonprofit Spotlight, we are proud to recognize New Life Thrift Shop, a faith-based nonprofit serving the Lewes and Rehoboth Beach communities in Delaware. Operated as a ministry of the Lewes-Rehoboth Association of Congregations (LRAC), New Life Thrift Shop is driven by a mission to serve with the love of Christ—supporting individuals and families while reinvesting 100% of its proceeds back into the local community.
For more than 20 years, New Life Thrift Shop has played a vital role in meeting community needs by transforming donated goods into critical funding for emergency assistance, housing support, food access, and family-focused programs administrated through LRAC. The shop exists not only as a place of affordable shopping, but as a resource that helps prevent and break cycles of homelessness, hardship, and hopelessness throughout the local community.
Giving Back Through Purpose and Partnership
New Life Thrift Shop’s impact extends well beyond its retail floor. Every donated item and every purchase supports LRAC’s broader mission to provide temporary and emergency support, assist home repair and weatherization efforts, and invest in programs that serve children and families most at risk.
The work itself is powered by an impressive network of dedicated volunteers who keep daily operations running—from receiving and sorting donations to pricing merchandise and assisting customers. This volunteer-driven model creates a welcoming environment rooted in compassion, service, and shared purpose, while ensuring that funds are returned directly to the community they serve.
That commitment to service is strengthened through New Life Thrift Shop’s partnership with ReEmployAbility’s Transition2Work® program, which connects injured workers with meaningful volunteer opportunities as they recover and prepare to return to work.
A Partnership Built on Resilience and Inclusion
Through Transition2Work, New Life Thrift Shop has welcomed participants into roles that support daily operations while providing structure, confidence, and a sense of belonging during recovery. These volunteers contribute not only their time and energy, but also their positivity, resilience, and strong work ethic—qualities that have left a lasting impression on staff and fellow volunteers alike.
As shared by Andrea, the Manager of New Life Thrift Shop, “Transition2Work volunteers are a wonderful example of resilience in action. Their time with us not only helps support our mission, but also reminds us that determination, friendship, and purpose can create new beginnings.”
Andrea further noted that many Transition2Work participants form genuine connections with staff and volunteers, becoming a meaningful part of the New Life community. Their willingness to step forward, rebuild confidence, and serve others embodies the heart of both organizations missions—uplifting people while strengthening the communities around them.
Where Service Creates New Beginnings
New Life Thrift Shop stands as a powerful example of how compassion, partnership, and purpose can intersect to create real impact. By welcoming Transition2Work participants and valuing each volunteers contribution, the organization fosters an environment where individuals are supported in their recovery journeys while helping others move forward as well.
We are honored to spotlight New Life Thrift Shop for their dedication to service, their unwavering commitment to giving back, and the meaningful role they play in helping individuals build new beginnings.
