In this month’s Nonprofit Spotlight, we are proud to highlight Snowline Hospice and Thrift Store, a nonprofit serving El Dorado, Sacramento, and Placer Counties. For more than 45 years, Snowline has walked with individuals and families during some of life’s most challenging moments, offering comfort, dignity, and compassion through Hospice Care, Palliative Care, Elder Care, and Grief Support. Their long-standing commitment to serving other extends beyond medical support—reaching deeply into the heart of their community through their thrift stores, where purpose and generosity come together.

Snowline’s impact is further strengthened through its partnership with ReEmployAbility, the nation’s largest provider of specialty return-to-work programs. ReEmployAbility connects injured workers with nonprofit organizations through its Transition2Work program, creating meaningful opportunities for individuals to remain active and engaged while recovering. Through this collaboration, Snowline Thrift Stores offer mission-centered roles where injured workers can re-establish routines, contribute to daily operations, and make a real difference in the communities Snowline serves.

Snowline’s Thrift Stores: Purpose Through Service

Snowline’s thrift stores are essential engines that help fund programs not fully covered by Medicare or insurance, including grief support, palliative services, and charity care. Every donated item, every hour of sorting, and every moment spent helping a customer contributes directly to the compassionate care Snowline provides to families in need.

Transition2Work volunteers play a key role in keeping the stores running smoothly. Whether assisting customers, organizing merchandise, or supporting behind the scenes operations, these volunteers strengthen Snowline’s mission while easing back into the workforce in a safe, supportive environment.

A Testimony of Impact

Snowline’s Volunteer Coordinator expressed her heartfelt appreciation for the volunteers who come through Transition2Wor and highlighted two standout individuals whose presence made a visible difference:

“Axel is the warm, welcoming presence for the community as they shop at Snowline Thrift. He always has a smile and is cheerful as he helps the customers. He is knowledgeable and loves to share about his Doberman puppies.”

“Monica jumps into everyday activities without being asked. She efficiently cleans and does tasks quickly—you never even know that they needed to be done. When she runs out, she looks for items in the back that need to go to the floor.”

These reflections show how injured workers contribute meaningful value, bringing positivity, initiative, and connection into Snowline’s thrift stores—while simultaneously rebuilding confidence and easing back into workforce routines in a supportive setting.

Recognition of an Outstanding Team

Snowline’s thrift store teams and volunteer leadership deserve special recognition for creating an environment rooted in respect, empathy, and encouragement. Their thoughtful guidance allows Transition2Work volunteers to feel welcomed, empowered, and appreciated from the moment they arrive. This sense of belonging fuels not only the success of the stores, but the success of every individual who volunteers with them.

The Value of Our Partnership

For Snowline, the Transition2Work program is a partnership grounded in community care. Volunteers have the opportunity to contribute to a mission that brings comfort to hundreds of families each year, while Snowline gains meaningful support that helps sustain the work they are known for: compassion, dignity, and unwavering service.

Snowline’s dedication to their community shines through their thrift stores, their volunteers, and the compassionate way they welcome each person who walks through their doors.
