This past weekend, our team at ReEmployAbility had the honor of participating in the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life, celebrating its 40th year of making an impact. What started in 1985 as a 24-hour marathon around a high school track has grown into a nationwide movement, bringing together survivors, caregivers, families, businesses, and volunteers with one common goal—to fight cancer.
The energy at Raymond James Stadium was palpable even before stepping onto the field. “Before I even set foot in the stadium on Saturday, I felt the energy of the space,” Lindsey shared. “I took a moment to take it in—the buzz, the noise, the positivity taking over the entire atmosphere. A community that comes together to provide hope, love, and light.”
Stepping Up for a Cause
ReEmployAbility had a table at the event for our second year, selling delicious homemade baked goods and hosting a colorful bracelet-making station to raise funds. We took turns walking (and even running!) around the track, soaking in the spirit of togetherness and the creative fundraising ideas from other booths. “The elementary school hosting a silent disco party across from us was too cute!” Lindsey added.
For Mimi, this was her first time experiencing Relay for Life, and it was truly special. “So happy to be a part of my first American Cancer Society Relay for Life event! It was such a great, fun time for an amazing cause. I was proud and honored to be a part of the ReEmployAbility Relay for Life committee this year. Contributing to the planning, promotion, and execution of my team meant a lot. Thank you to everyone at ReEmployAbility who donated baked goods and made bracelets to help us reach our fundraising goal. We did it!”
As we prepared for the event, the outpouring of support from our team and community was overwhelming. “I can’t help but get emotional seeing the support and participation towards this cause,” Amber said. “Whether you made a bracelet, donated baked goods, or attended the event, every minute and dollar spent is so appreciated—not just by me, but by anyone who has ever felt the impact of cancer. This is truly the best workplace, with the BEST people, and I thank you all so much!”
From Survivors to Supporters: Why Relay for Life Matters to Us

For many of us, this cause is deeply personal. Cancer has touched nearly everyone in some way, and for Amber, it is a fight she knows firsthand. As a cancer survivor, she was the one who brought this event to our attention and encouraged us to participate. Her passion for supporting those affected by cancer and advocating for research made this experience even more meaningful. Her strength and resilience are an inspiration to all of us. We are grateful to have her as part of our team.
Jolissa also shared her personal journey with cancer. “Did you know that every year, about 2 million people are diagnosed with cancer? Almost all of us know someone whose life has been impacted by cancer. You may be someone who has battled it yourself. If you are reading this, you know a 2x Cancer Survivor—me! Last year, when I participated in Relay for Life, I had no idea that just a month later we would find a weird lump that ended up being Thyroid cancer. I may be down an organ this year, but I still plan on joining my team at the 2025 Relay for Life to help the American Cancer Society fund cancer research, patient support, and advocacy efforts to end cancer as we know it, for everyone.”
Beyond Amber and Jolissa, we also want to acknowledge that other members of our team have faced their own battles with cancer. While they may not have shared their stories publicly, we hold them close in our hearts and honor their strength and perseverance. This event was not just about raising funds but about standing in solidarity with them and everyone impacted by cancer.
Fighting Cancer One Step at a Time
Relay for Life of Greater Tampa Bay raised nearly $565,000 this weekend, and every dollar will make a difference in funding research, prevention, and care. It was an unforgettable night filled with laughter, tears, dancing, and above all—hope. We are so proud to have been a part of this movement. We look forward to continuing the fight in the years to come.
To everyone who contributed, attended, or supported in any way—thank you. Together, we are making an impact.
