This month, ReEmployAbility team members came together to make a meaningful impact in the Tampa community by volunteering with Paint Your Heart Out Tampa. This annual initiative focuses on painting and beautifying the homes of low-income seniors, individuals with disabilities, and veterans throughout the city, all at no cost to the homeowners.

Around 25 ReEmployAbility team members participated in this year’s event, dedicating their time, energy, and care to refresh a home that was in need of attention. Their collective effort reflected a shared commitment to service and to strengthening the communities where we live and work.

Paint Your Heart Out Tampa’s mission centers on restoring dignity and improving quality of life through safe and well-maintained housing. Spending the day on site bright that mission to life in a very tangible way.

Showing Up With Purpose

Throughout the day, volunteers worked together to prepare and paint the exterior of the home. Tasks included scraping, priming, and applying multiple coats of paint, all accomplished through teamwork, clear communication, and attention to detail.

For Cynthia, Community Care Team Lead, the experience connected naturally with her personal interests. “I enjoy giving back to the community, and I also love painting,” Cynthia shared. “Being able to contribute in a hands‑on way felt meaningful. Using a skill I enjoy to help others made the experience even more fulfilling.”

As the project progressed, the visible improvement reinforced the value of staying focused on a shared goal. The finished work stood as a clear result of collaboration and care.

The Meaning Behind the Work

The impact of the day was felt most clearly in the response from the homeowner. Later that evening, he shared his gratitude with the volunteer leaders, asking that his message be passed along to the team:

“I wanted to really thank you and your team, every one of them, for the great job you all did with the sorely needed paint job for our house. You took great care with your work and were very professional in every way. The paint job was exactly what we would have wanted from a professional contractor. You are doing a great service to the community with this program. Thank you so much, and God bless all of you.”

Hearing this feedback was a powerful reminder that the effort extended far beyond paint and materials. It reflected respect, pride, and the difference that genuine care can make in someone’s home and daily life.

Strengthening Connections Through Service

Dulce Perez‑Ramos, Admin Team Lead, reflected on the connection built throughout the day and the meaning behind giving back locally.

“Sharing the experience with my coworkers made it especially rewarding,” she said. “It felt meaningful to step outside of our regular work and support elderly residents who truly need it. Seeing the final result and knowing the homeowner would appreciate it made the experience even more special.”

Both Cynthia and Dulce shared that the experience offered a deeper understanding of the challenges nonprofits work to address, as well as the coordination and support required to create lasting impact.

Continuing the Commitment

Volunteering with Paint Your Heart Out Tampa left a lasting impression on everyone involved. Cynthia noted that the experience reinforced the importance of collaboration, accountability, and showing up with intention.

Her advice to those considering volunteering was simple. “Show up with an open mind and a willingness to help. You do not need special skills, just a genuine desire to make a difference.”

The pride in how our teams showed up was evident throughout the day. The finished home now stands as a symbol of what can be accomplished when people come together with purpose and care.

We are grateful to Paint Your Heart Out Tampa for the opportunity to support their mission and proud of our ReEmployAbility team members for continuing to put our values into action within the community.
