presentsRecently, our staff coordinated efforts to volunteer at Metropolitan Ministries — a food bank and resource for those in need. We gave our time registering clients, providing child care so parents could shop without distractions, helping people locate needed items in the food pantry and gifts for Christmas, bringing snacks and drinks to clients waiting for chapel services and their turn to shop, and moving donated food from the trucks to stock the shelves.

An impact was made on all of us during the time we were there. We saw mothers, fathers, kids, babies, veterans, and grandparents in need of help. We don’t know their stories or their past, but we recognized ourselves in them. We received a gift this season — an opportunity to contribute to something beyond ourselves and take action toward generosity. During a time of year when we are looking at gift lists, our attention was focused on the needs of others. We all received a gift that day – the gift of service.
