Transition2Work Remote Assignments: Work From Home or at the Employer’s Worksite

Flexible Options for Meaningful and Safe Remote Return-to-Work

When an injured worker is released to modified or light duty but cannot return to their pre-injury role on-site, Transition2Work® provides flexible remote and employer-based options. These assignments offer meaningful work that supports recovery while helping employees stay connected to purpose and routine.

Remote assignments, including work-from-home and employer worksite options, are designed for situations where in-person opportunities may not be feasible due to physical restrictions, safety considerations, geographic limitations, or organizational needs.

Through our nationwide network of nonprofit partners and employer-based opportunities, we connect injured workers to medically appropriate assignments that align with their capabilities, support progress, and deliver positive outcomes for employers, employees, and communities.

Transition2Work Work-From-Home and Employer Worksite Frequently Asked Questions

What work will the employee perform?

Employees support nonprofit organizatons through clearly defined administrative and customer-focused tasks. This may include outbound calls, data entry, research, maintaining resource lists, assisting with social media activities, and other project-bsed work.

Our assignment database continues to expand, allowing us to accommodate a wide range of physical abilities, schedules, language preferences, skill sets, and technology access.

How is the assignment managed and monitored?

Each employee follows a defined schedule and is responsible for tracking time and task completion. ReEmployAbility supports all assignments through onboarding, ongoing support, regular check-ins, and reporting to ensure accountability, productivity, and consistent engagement. The nonprofit organization or point of contact provides day-to-day direction and monitors the employee’s daily activity and output.

What equipment is needed and who provides it?

Requirements vary by assignment, many roles require access to a computer or tablet, internet connection, phone access, and a suitable workspace. Some assignment may also require basic tools such as email, Microsoft Word or Excel, or other web-based systems.

Employees typically use their own internet and either personal or employer-provided equipment. ReEmployAbility reviews each situation to ensure the setup meets assignment requirements and helps identify solutions as needed.

How quickly can an assignment begin?

Timing depends on factors such as the employee’s medical restrictions, capabilities, and jurisdictional requirements. Our goal is to match the employee with an appropriate assignment as quickly as possible once all approvals, onboarding steps, and necessary requirements are complete.

Can assignments be adjusted as recovery progresses?

Yes. Assignments are reviewed regularly and can be modified as medical restrictions change to support a safe, progressive return-to-work process.

Is the cost the same as traditional assignments?

Yes. Remote assignments follow the same cost structure as traditional modified-duty work, unless otherwise specified.

How does an employer worksite assignment work?

Employees complete modified-duty tasks for a nonprofit partner while remaining onsite at the employer’s location. This allows them to stay connected to their work environment, team, and daily routine while performing meaningful work during recovery.

When is an employer worksite assignment appropriate?

When the employee can safely be present at the employer’s worksite and onsite participation is practical based on factors such as available workspace, supervision, and proximity to the location.

What is required to support an employer worksite assignment?

The employer must be able to provide a safe workspace and support general onsite oversigt while accommodating the employee’s medical restrictions during participation.

How does a work-from-home assignment work?

Employees complete clearly defined, modified-duty tasks for a nonprofit partner from home, allowing them to remain engaged in meaningful work while progressing within their current limitations.

When is a work-from-home assignment appropriate?

When the employee is unable to participate at a physical location due to medical restrictions, mobility limitations, transportation challenges, or other barriers.

How do you determine if an employee is suitable for a work-from-home assignment?

ReEmployAbility pre-screens each employee to assess functional ability, communication skills, and overall readiness to work independently in a remote setting before beginning a work-from-home assignment.
