ReEmployAbility prides itself on forming strong, long-lasting relationships with our Nonprofit Partners. Lindsey Bressi, ReEmployAbility’s nonprofit relationship manager, recently traveled to Los Angeles to connect with some of our largest charity partners. ReEmployAbiltiy’s Nonprofit Partners are organizations across the United States that host Transition2Work participants. She had the privilege of visiting the Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County.

Second Harvest: A Community Partner Alleviating Hunger

As a former food bank volunteer, Bressi felt connected to the work of the Second Harvest Food Bank. She spent time with two volunteers, Landon and Malik, who showed her around the Distribution Center and assisted her. Serving as a long-term bastion of support throughout Orange County, California, the charity’s mission is to “provide dignified, equitable, and consistent access to nutritious food, creating a foundation for community health.” The food bank supports over 360 community partners, including places of worship, school pantries, after-school programs, senior centers, soup kitchens, and shelters and transitional housing facilities. Their tireless work provides food to hundreds of thousands of individuals in need across the region.

Feeding Orange County For Over 40 Years

The Second Harvest Food Bank partners distribute food, groceries, and meals to over 400,000 families in Southern California every single month. Their efforts include hosting weekly distribution efforts from centers, warehouses, as well as “park-it” markets. Second Harvest’s dedication to this effort also includes providing nutritional staples to supplement home pantries for families and handing out snacks after school and during summer camps for children. Their charity expands beyond the every day, serving thoughtful meals to families, seniors, students, the unhoused, and anyone in need. Last year alone, they distributed over 36 million pounds of food across Orange County. Some of which were grown on their very own Harvest Solutions Farm.

While volunteering with The Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County, Bressi helped sort over 14,000 pounds of fresh produce. This collective effort was shared among various partners for distribution to Orange County’s most in need. Through ReEmployAbility’s Transition2Work program, volunteers can help fulfill an impactful mission. Bressi reasserted this by stating, “What an incredible mission to support, and [ReEmployAbility is] proud to be a part of it! “
