Serving Hope: Justine’s Day of Giving at Westminster Presbyterian Church & Meals on Wheels
At Westminster Presbyterian Church, known for its strong community support and outreach, Justine House, an Administrative Associate at ReEmployAbility, found immense satisfaction volunteering with the nonprofit organization Meals on Wheels. This church, celebrated for its collaborative spirit, partners with various other local churches to ensure the Meals on Wheels program operates smoothly throughout the week. On a Monday morning, Justine diligently arrived to assist with essential tasks such as prepping food, meticulously labeling clam shells, portioning meals, and organizing them into groups for delivery. Having contributed numerous times before joining ReEmployAbility, Justine continued to find joy in serving the community. She shared that, “The woman in charge of the program, Hillary, is good friends with my Grandmother and a wonderful coordinator for what she does.”

As the morning progressed and more volunteers arrived, the environment became lively and bustling with a shared sense of purpose. A notable aspect of their work was the partnership with Panera, which donates unsold baked goods to programs like Meals on Wheels instead of discarding them. This collaboration transforms potential waste into valuable nourishment for many. The interconnected efforts of local businesses and community organizations, like those at Westminster Presbyterian Church, exemplify the spirit of giving back. The church, a beacon of hope and generosity, along with the Meals on Wheels program, provided a platform for volunteers to make a tangible difference, one meal at a time.
Mulberry Community Service Center: Where Krista’s Compassion Meets Action for a Thriving Community
ReEmployAbility Placement Specialist, Krista Garcia, spent a fulfilling day as a dedicated volunteer at the Mulberry Community Service Center in Mulberry, Florida, supporting an organization that exemplifies the spirit of giving back. The center’s mission, “Meeting community needs one family at a time through day-to-day assistance, empowerment, financial literacy, coaching, and education,” deeply resonated with Krista. Guided by two participants in ReEmployAbility’s Transition2Work® program, Krista was able to assist with sorting new donations, retrieving items from donors’ cars, organizing the thrift store, and arranging the food pantry for an upcoming drive. This hands-on experience highlighted the center’s commitment to providing essential services to the community.

Recommending the Mulberry Community Service Center to anyone interested in volunteering, Krista emphasized the importance of supporting such a valuable cause. As a Placement Specialist at ReEmployAbility, they found it particularly meaningful to meet the injured workers placed at the center, hearing firsthand how the program helped them regain purpose. Krista stated, “this felt especially meaningful to have an opportunity to interact with the injured workers we placed there. To be able to put faces to the names of the referrals we receive was eye-opening. To get to know them and how they were hurt on the job and how we were able to help them find purpose again was a great feeling.”
Additionally, the center offers extensive services beyond the thrift store, including programs through United Way. For example, the center facilitated a financial literacy class that taught participants to save money and improve their credit scores, further showcasing how nonprofits can provide opportunities that positively impact lives.
