A Visit to MorningStar Mission
Lindsey Bressi, Nonprofit Relationship Manager at ReEmployAbility, recently embarked on a visit to MorningStar’s main office and their two thriving resale stores, Treasure Chest I and Treasure Chest II. These stores play a pivotal role in supporting MorningStar Mission’s extensive range of services, from men’s, women’s, and children’s programs to emergency shelters, drop-in centers, food pantries, daily meal services, and educational courses.

Exploring Treasure Chest Resale Stores
Of the two stores, Treasure Chest II stands out as the larger facility, serving as the central hub for processing all incoming donations. Bressi was amazed by the organized chaos that defines their processing center. Despite the constant influx of items, the team diligently manages sorting, cleaning, pricing, tagging, and stocking. Trucks loaded with sorted products make daily deliveries to Treasure Chest I, ensuring a steady supply of quality items for resale.

Community Generosity in Action
The MorningStar team expressed gratitude for the overwhelming community support, emphasizing the community’s generosity in donating items. Bressi witnessed the tireless efforts of the staff, who work relentlessly with the understanding that every small sale contributes to a larger cause. As one staff member shared, “a $2.48 sale is a meal for someone in need locally.” This sentiment highlights the profound impact even modest purchases can have on supporting those facing challenges in the community.

The Motivation Behind the Mission
Throughout the stores, signs proudly display the MorningStar mission, serving as constant reminders for shoppers of the tangible impact their purchases make. Lindsey observed a dedicated staff member reflecting on the relentless nature of their work and finding motivation in the fact that each sale directly contributes to supporting individuals in need within the local community. It is this collective effort, whether through donations, shopping, work, or volunteering, that enables MorningStar Mission to continue its impactful initiatives.
Transitional Light Duty for Injured Workers
The visit underscored the importance of MorningStar Mission’s services, including transitional light duty for injured workers. By supporting the resale stores, MorningStar Mission creates opportunities for employment and engagement, contributing to the overall well-being of the community. ReEmployAbility’s Transition2Work program allows injured workers on Transitional light duty to aid their communities but also serves as a method to aid faster recovery from injuries.
Lindsey Bressi’s visit to MorningStar Mission’s resale stores provided a firsthand look at the heart of the organization. The commitment to community impact, the dedication of the staff, and the direct connection between small purchases and meaningful contributions exemplify MorningStar Mission’s mission in action. As ReEmployAbility’s Nonprofit Relationship Manager, Lindsey understands the pivotal role these resale stores play in not only generating funds for critical services but also in providing a pathway for individuals to rebuild their lives through transitional light duty programs.
MorningStar Mission
Since its beginning in November 1909, MorningStar Mission has had one main goal — help people in need.
Today, MorningStar Mission is a non-denominational organization dedicated to relieving the spiritual and physical hunger of the poor by providing food for the hungry, clothes for the needy, shelter for the homeless, and the gospel of Jesus Christ for all.
Through our many Christ-centered programs and services, we aim to help people in need by getting to the core issues of what has caused their homelessness. Whether the problem stems from alcohol, drugs, mental health, or family matters, our services have been developed for those who have reached the decision to make a real change in their lives.
